EMS technology

Our Twickenham dentists and hygienists are so passionate about prevention that we have invested in the very best hygiene cleaning technology on the market.

Our Swiss-made EMS machine allows us to carry out Guided Biofilm Therapy. This means we can clean up to 100% of the harmful plaque (biofilm) from your teeth and gums – painlessly!

Why is that so important? Because it is the only way to prevent gum disease and tooth decay.

GBT treatment

Firstly, we use disclosing tablets to identify the biofilm on your teeth. As we have said, biofilm is tricky to spot, and it can only be removed completely once it is made visible. An organic dye is applied to your teeth to make the biofilm visible and highlight the areas that need the most attention.

By identifying the areas, you are missing with your usual brushing technique we will teach you how to protect your teeth from damaging biofilm for life.

We then remove the biofilm and hard plaque (calculus) from your teeth and gum pockets gently and thoroughly using a variety of special cleaning heads, warm water, air and a flavoured powder.

Periodontal treatment

Our skilled dental hygienists are dedicated to providing comprehensive periodontal treatments tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient. Whether you are experiencing early signs of gum disease or require more advanced periodontal care, our team is here to ensure your gums stay healthy and strong.

Our periodontal treatment services include thorough assessments to evaluate gum health, professional cleanings such as scaling and root planing to remove plaque and tartar buildup, personalised treatment plans based on individual needs, and ongoing maintenance to monitor gum health and prevent reocurrence.

Dental Hygienist FAQs

Find answers to the most common questions about Dental Hygienist treatment, costs, comfort, and results, so you can feel confident before starting your smile journey.

How often should I see a dental hygienist?

Most patients benefit from hygiene appointments every 3–6 months, but your dentist may recommend a personalised schedule.

No — GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy) is not painful for the vast majority of patients. In fact, it’s specifically designed to be much more comfortable than traditional scale and polish treatments. GBT uses warm water, air, and a fine powder to gently remove plaque, bacteria, and stains, rather than aggressive scraping. This makes it ideal for patients with sensitive teeth, gum inflammation, implants, braces, or dental anxiety. Ultrasonic instruments are only used when absolutely necessary and in a very targeted way.

A dentist, dental hygienist, and dental therapist each play different roles in your dental care.

A dentist diagnoses problems and provides complex treatments such as crowns, root canal treatment, extractions, implants, and cosmetic dentistry. They oversee your overall treatment plan.

A dental hygienist focuses on prevention and gum health, providing professional cleaning, gum disease treatment, and personalised oral hygiene advice.

A dental therapist carries out routine treatments such as fillings, hygiene care, and children’s dentistry, and is specially trained to help make treatment comfortable and preventative.

Working together, they ensure you receive the most appropriate care for your needs.

Yes, we do offer hygiene care for children. Our team provides GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy), which is a gentle and comfortable way to clean young teeth, along with disclosing( purple dye) to highlight plaque and support effective oral health education. This helps children understand how to care for their teeth while building positive, confidence-boosting dental habits from an early age.

Yes, most private dental insurance plans cover hygienist visits, either fully or partially, depending on your policy. Coverage often includes routine hygiene appointments and preventative care. We recommend checking the specific details of your plan, and our team is always happy to help you understand what your insurance covers and assist with claims where needed.
