The first “regular” dental visit should be just after your child’s first birthday.  We also encourage parents to bring little ones to the dentist during a parent’s or sibling’s visit just to get used to the environment. 

The first dental visit is usually short and involves very little treatment.  We may ask you to sit in the dental chair and hold your child during the examination. When your child is older, you may also be asked to wait in the reception area during part of the visit so that a relationship can be built between your child and your dentist.

It is important to take action early if your child’s bite is not right. Early intervention is often in a child’s best interests. If planned and implemented at the right time, our orthodontist, Dr Annika Patel can reduce or prevent the need for braces when kids are older.

This appointment will involve you completing a Medical History Form, followed by an X-ray (if necessary) and a thorough dental examination of the health of your gums, teeth and mouth. We will also take the time to get to know you and to discuss any treatment preferences and nuances you may have.

Daily brushing and flossing will keep dental plaque to a minimum, but a professional hygienist cleaning will remove calculus (hardened plaque also known as tartar) in places your toothbrush and floss have missed. Your visit to Refresh dental s an important part of your program to prevent gum disease and tooth loss.  We once thought tooth loss was an inevitable part of ageing, but now we know that professional prevention will help you keep your teeth for your lifetime!
